Enlarged the slots to 3/4", adding the 1/4" to the bottom of the slots. The left slot still rubbed the cable on the aft end, the right slot rubbed the cable on the forward end. Did a third cut to lengthen the slots as necessary. Images 1 and 2 show a scale positioned at the reference edge used on the plans and the final length of the slots can be estimated. The left slot is barely long enough on the aft end, and the right side barly long enough on the forward side. They could use another 1/4"-1/2" in length for additional of clearance.
I repositioned the elevator idler per drawing revision. Some of the idler holes are too close to the skin holes to use the 5 idler rivets plus the 4 skin rivets from the skin side. I will countersink the idler holes from the bottom of the longeron, and only the 4 skin rivets will be installed from the outside. I pre-drilled the skin pilot holes in the idler bracket so it only needs updrilling with the bottom skin when it gets installed.
